1. Delete your account in the app
The fastest way to delete your account is from inside the ScoutLocal app on Android or iOS:
- Open the ScoutLocal app and sign in.
- Tap your profile picture in the top-right corner.
- Scroll to the bottom of your profile and tap Delete account.
- Confirm by tapping Delete account again.
Your account is closed immediately and you are signed out on that device. You will not be able to sign in to that account again.
2. Request deletion without the app
If you no longer have the app installed or cannot sign in, you can ask us to delete your account by email:
- Email privacy@scoutlocal.ca with the subject “Account deletion request”.
- Send it from the email address you use to sign in to ScoutLocal, so we can confirm the account is yours.
- Tell us whether you also have a business account you want closed.
We will confirm by email once your account has been deleted, within 30 days of receiving your request. If we cannot verify that you own the account, we will reply and ask for more information before deleting anything.
3. What we delete
When your account is deleted, we delete the following personal data within 30 days:
- Your sign-in details (email address, password, and linked Google or Apple sign-in)
- Your profile (name, profile picture, bio, and date of birth)
- Your preferences, home neighbourhoods, and notification settings
- Your saved places, offers, events, and RSVPs
- Your location data
- Your search history and conversations with Scout
- Your in-app activity history and personalization data
- Device registrations used for notifications
Copies held in our encrypted database backups are removed as those backups expire, within 30 days.
4. What we keep, and for how long
We keep a small amount of information after deletion, only where we need it for the reasons below:
Reviews. Reviews you posted may stay visible on business pages so other people can still read them, but your name and profile are removed and they are no longer linked to you.
Offer redemptions and payments. Records of offers you redeemed and any payments are kept for as long as Canadian tax and accounting law requires (generally six years), then deleted. Card details are held by our payment processor, Stripe, not by ScoutLocal.
Legal and safety records. If we are required to keep information to comply with the law, resolve a dispute, or prevent fraud or abuse, we keep only what is needed and only for as long as it is needed.
De-identified analytics. Aggregated usage statistics that cannot be used to identify you may be kept.
5. Business accounts
If you own a business on ScoutLocal, deleting your account also removes your access to the Business Portal. Cancel any paid subscription first so you are not billed again.
Business listings can be closed or transferred to another owner. Email privacy@scoutlocal.ca and tell us which you would like.
6. Questions
For questions about deleting your data, or to request a copy of your data before you delete your account, email privacy@scoutlocal.ca. See our Privacy Policy for more on how we handle your information.
